Annie B. Mitchell

McDonough Chapel On November 13, 1922 the late Mr. William & Mrs. Opie Starks gave birth to Annie B. Starks in Monroe County, GA. Annie B. became a member of the Cleveland Chapel A.M.E. Church at an early age, where she attended with her family. In her early years she served on the usher board faithfully. Annie B. lived her life ministering to family, friends and the community with whatever you needed. She enjoyed laughing, smiling, dancing and sharing her knowledge on life. Annie B. Mitchell prepared hot lunch for her working husband five days a week (using pots & pans and making fresh cornbread) daily. She would often share her years of experience with her children. She would tell them “You better make yourself #1, you can’t take care of nobody else if you don’t take care of yourself”. She had a unique way to share her wisdom with her grandkids. When sharing their daily struggles with one of her favorite things she would say to the kids is “Don’t you be no peewee”. She was lovingly called “Honey”, Annie, Annie B., Bee, momma, grand momma, grandma Bee, ma’bee no matter what you called her it was with love she answered. Annie B. loved her cat “Blue”, Peach snuff, Fried chicken, Cornbread, Sweet Tea and then in her later years it was Vanilla cookies and Boost milk. She had many sayings that will live with us forever such as “You’re #1”, “I know where your coming from but I don’t know where you’re going” and “I hear you but I don’t understand”. She married Mr. Randolph Mitchell Sr. on Aug 10, 1940, who preceded her in death. They were married for 63 years. She was the proud mother of nine children and one son by marriage: Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Merritt (Dorothy), Mrs. Betty Long, Mr. Bobby Mitchell, Mr. & Mrs. Howard Bryant (Martill), Mr. Randolph Mitchell Jr. (Mona), Mr. & Mrs. Homer Pittman (Martha), Mr. & Mrs. Harold Pittman (Georgia), Mr. & Mrs. Wayne Mitchell (Martha), Mr. & Mrs. James Milford (Chevy), son by marriage Mr. & Mrs. Otis Mitchell (Dollie Ruth) and one honorary son Jerry Bowden. She is survived by one brother, John K. Starks whom she would fight for. Brothers and Sisters who preceded her in death ,William “Bill” Starks, Ruby “Pook” Gaston, Jessie “Sweetney” Starks, Sarah” Wank” Starks. There are 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great- great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews’, grandchildren and great grandchildren by marriage. In the early evening Dec. 18, 2017, an angel descended from heaven to escort one of his children Annie B. Mitchell to her heavenly home.
