John Robert Banks the son of the late Henry and Ethel Weems Banks, was born in Stockbridge, GA on August 22, 1941, the seventh of nine children. John was educated at Henry County Training School. At a young age, he joined Red Oak United Methodist Church. He then joined Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1968 and served on the Trustee Board and the Male Choir. As a young man, he worked at Broder Dairy Farm and Southern Aluminum of Atlanta. On August 19, 1962, he married Christine Lemon and from this union, Gregory Bernard Banks and Rashonda Banks Favors were born. John embarked on several careers that led him to leave his home of Stockbridge in the early 1960s and move to Newark, New Jersey. He returned home to begin a career at Bristol Myers Squibb (formerly E.R Squibb & Sons) where he worked for 25 years until retirement. John then began working at Print Pack and excelled at being a top performer at his position until his retirement. For six years he worked for the Henry County school system. His entrepreneurial spirit and mechanical talent would lead him to several business ventures, which included an auto shop and cleaning service. He was an avid sports fan, loved cars, and would often attend drag races. John leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife of 59 years, Christine (Lemon) Banks, daughter Rashonda Banks Favors, son-in-law Derek Favors, grandson Christian Favors, one brother Oliver Banks (Barbara), sister Queen Oliver and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His oldest child Gregory Bernard Banks preceded him in death in 2017.
