She moved to New York at the age of five. Doris attended school and graduated from A.B. Davis. One of Doris' first jobs was at the Metropolitan (MET) insurance company where she worked for a year. Doris married Horace Banks in 1956. The couple had two daughters Karen and Cheryl. Doris began working at the Mount Vernon Public Library where she retired after working for 42 years. Doris was friendly, personable, greeted everyone with a smile, and had a great sense of humor. She loved cooking, sewing, reading and doing crossword puzzles. Doris was preceded in death by her mother Novella Metcalf, father Ivory Fennell, daughter Karen Banks, siblings Ivory Ozzie Fennell Junior, Freddie Francis- Ruffin, and Shirley Elaine Fennell-Fulks. Left to celebrate her life and homecoming are her husband Horace Banks, daughter Cheryl Ellison, grandsons Terrel and Rashaun Ellison, and their wives, Maya and Tiara. Doris's siblings Terry Fennell and Norma Jean Fennell-Little and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
