Ruth Rose Curry Hixson

Ruth Rose Curry (Ruthie) was born on September 7, 1942 in Key West, FL to the late Alfonso and Neakoa Curry. She was the youngest of three siblings, with Alfred Curry who preceded her in death and Ronda Lamb who resides in Miami Fl. Ruthie received her education in Key West and Miami Fl. Ultimately graduating from Douglas High School in Key West Fl in 1960. Ruthie began her employment with Miami Dade County Public Schools as a cafeteria worker in 1960. From there she moved through various positions within the MDCPS system which included Treasurer/Secretary at Holmes Elementary, Lillie C. Evans Elementary, Broadmoor Elementary and Carver High School (now Carver Middle School). In the late 1980’s she started her final position as an Executive Secretary with Region 4 until she retired in 1997. She completed 37 years of employment with MDCPS System. Through her years of working she helped many start their careers with the school board. Ruthie received her Christian education at St. John Institutional Baptist Church in Miami Fl under the leadership of Rev. Thedford Johnson. Later Ruthie would join and become a faithful member of Greater Love Baptist Church in Miami Fl in 1998. Ruthie was affiliated with several organizations throughout her stay in Miami. One of her most dedicated and enjoyable organizations were Les Stenos and the Eastern Stars. The Les Stenos organization catered to Secretaries that gave back to the community that helped others. In 2004 Ruth Curry met Richard Hixson in which they both were members of Greater Love. On September 8, 2005 Richard and Ruthie were joined in holy matrimony. Ruthie and Richard relocated to Atlanta Georgia in April of 2006 to begin their full retirement journey. They both continued to travel which was one of her favorite things she enjoyed most. Ruthie has traveled to Jerusalem, Egypt, Greece, Paris, Italy, Croatia, Brazil and all the Caribbean Islands. Once settling down in Hampton, Ga they decided to join Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where she began to work with the Deaconess. Ruthie was a devoted faithful member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and loved the teachings of Pastor Foster. Once Ruthie’s health began to decline she would enjoy the services via on line. On January 3, 2023, at 3:15 pm, the Lord sent his angels to give his daughter safe passage from her earthly home to His heavenly home. In cherish memories she leaves her devoted and loving husband of seventeen years, her three dedicated and very caring daughters Valerie Coffey (Donald) whom she thought the world of, Bridgett Clark (Curtis) and Vicki Hixson. She also leaves four grandchildren Sherrod Sharpe (Neida), Akilah Coffey (Jeremy), Travis Brown (Trimika), and Ashley Hixson (Kevin). Twelve Great grandchildren, a loving sister Ronda Lamb, an adopted brother Kevin Lewis, and sister in law Sarah Curry. Two aunts Ellavise Forbes and Norene Murphy. A nephew Reginald Lamb (Debra), and two nieces Alfreda Jackson and Adrienne Lamb. A close cousin Rose Marie Jeminson and a best friend of over 60 years Essie Clemons. Ruthie has touched the hearts of those who she crossed paths with and she will forever be missed. A special thank you to her adopted daughter Tangela Jackson who has been a helping hand in caring for Ruthie while she was ill.
