Rosaella Pope

In Loving Memory of Rosaella Pope Our beloved Rosaella Pope was born on February 21, 1944 in Morrow, GA to the late James Franklin Pope and Rosa Mae Scott Pope. She was the third eldest of twelve children. She passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. At an early age, Rosaella Pope offered her life to Christ and was baptized at the Rocky Mount Baptist Church by Reverend James H. Miller, where her earthly Father, James Franklin Pope served as a Deacon. She accepted the Lord Christ as her Savior and was a faithful and lifelong member of the Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Rex, GA. Rosaella attended Fountain High School in Forest Park, GA and graduated in 1963. Later that year, she relocated to Harlem, New York and eventually moved to the Bronx, New York. In 1975, she began working at St. Barnabas Hospital as a Nursing Assistant and became an active and dedicated member of the 1199 Service Employees International Union (SEIU). She retired in 2000. Rosaella met Ernest Carlisle who preceded her in death in 1996. They created a loving son, Ernest Marcel Pope born in March of 1970. She was an amazing and skilled baker and chef. She spent tireless hours teaching her goddaughters to cook as well. Family and friends raved about Rosaella’s Rum Cake and Peach Cobbler. She cooked each and every meal to perfection. This is how she demonstrated her love for everyone. She was selfless and poured every ounce of who she was into preparing those meals for family, friends, co-workers, and church members. Rosaella was also very generous and reached out to help others as often as she could. She was the very representation of a cheerful giver. While residing on Carroll Place in the Bronx, Rosaella’s doors were always open to family and friends. Her home was a central location where the best gatherings and parties were held. Her home was filled with laughter, good times, and lots of love. It was a safe haven. In 2010, she returned to her birthplace of Georgia where she would spend her final days. Rosaella also joined and became an active member of the Charlie Griswold Senior Center in Jonesboro, GA. She cared greatly for her family and loved everyone unconditionally. She was enormously proud of her family’s accomplishments. Rosaella is preceded in death by her parents, James Franklin Pope, and Rosa Mae Scott Pope; sisters, Marie Pope, Carolyn Pope Broughton, and Dorothy Smith (Howard); her brother, James Pope Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and dedicated son, Ernest Marcel Pope, of Morrow, GA, (former) daughter-in-law Michelle Bland Parris, of Bronx, NY; grandchildren, Ieisha Shanaya Bland of Bronx, NY, Tane Marshell Pope of Bronx, NY, and Dashaun Marcel Pope of Bronx, NY; sisters, Geneva Moore-Rigo of Morrow, GA, Sarah Parks of Bronx, NY, Helen Herrshaft of Forest Park, GA, Patricia Lee (Oscar) of Stockbridge, GA and Marilyn Pope Johnson of Rex, GA; brothers, Charles Edward Pope of Morrow, GA, and Robert Lee Pope of Griffin, GA; goddaughters, Brenda Moore of New York, NY and Tonya Parks of Bronx, NY; a host of nieces and nephews, bonus daughters, Nadine Telleria and Andrea Forde; special friend, Ernest Nash; a host of friends and family in New York City, The Charlie Griswold Senior Center Family, in Jonesboro, GA, and friends at Governor’s Drive in Forest Park, GA.
