Paul David Bowman

Paul David Bowman was born on January 22, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was the fifth born of seven children from the union of the late Alvin Justin and Elsie Mae Bowman. While growing up in Saginaw, Michigan, Paul attended Zion Baptist Church, Kingdom Hall with his beloved mother, excelled in sports (basketball, football and baseball), and actively engaged in a range of community activities. Paul was educated in the Saginaw Public Schools and graduated from Saginaw High School in 1968. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan after attending both Saginaw Valley State University and Delta College. Paul majored in Social Studies, and minored in History and English with a strong foundation in African American and African Studies. After graduation, Paul taught for several years in the Goose Creek School System in the Charleston, South Carolina area. He loved to travel and moved on to work in a range of professional roles in Savanah, Georgia, Dothan, Alabama, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Tallahassee, Florida, Orlando, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia. In his various professional roles, Paul maintained a consistent passion for child development with a strong and fulfilling commitment to the growth, safety and wellbeing of children. In addition to traveling, Paul loved reading, writing, sports, playing tennis, fishing, cooking and spending quality time with family and friends. Moreso, Paul loved the teachings of the Bible and was a strong, serious, gentle, compassionate, and loving human being who personified the ancient values of MAAT – truth, justice, righteousness, order, balance, reciprocity and propriety. Paul departed his earthly life on February 9, 2017 in Prince Georges County, Maryland after a long illness at the home of his loving daughter Asheena. Paul leaves precious memories with his two beloved daughters, Asheena Tucker (Son-in-Law David Tucker) of Prince Georges County, Maryland and Zuri Bowman of West Palm Beach, Florida; five siblings, Patricia A. Bowman of Ann Arbor, MI, Carol A. Bowman of Ann Arbor, MI, Phillip J. Bowman of Ann Arbor, MI, Michael L. Bowman of McDonough, GA, and Anthony J. Bowman of McDonough, GA; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends (including very special friends Carlon Carter, Linda Eddington and Spencer Simms). He was predeceased by his mother, father and one brother, Joseph Bowman (Yusuf Rasheed). We thank God for his life and will cherish his precious memory in our hearts forever. As we may be greatly saddened by his earthly departure, Paul touched the lives of many and would want all of us to continue to walk by faith, not by sight, and always stay in spirit. Dad, although you have departed from us physically your spirit will live within us forever. The greatest gift you left us with is our bond of sisterhood which we promise to cherish forever. --Asheena & Zuri Bowman
