On January 22, 2024 at 10:28 AM, he answered his name to the roll call, surrounded by his family. Derrick accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Cleveland Chapel AME Church, and later along with his mom and siblings moved his membership to Unity Grove Baptist Church (where his father was a member) so that the family could be together as one. As a member of Unity Grove Baptist Church, he was a member of the Male Choir and later was the church’s drummer, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He received his education through the Henry County School System where he was an outstanding athlete excelling in baseball and basketball. Upon graduating in 1989 from Henry County High, he was granted a basketball scholarship from Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama where he excelled in basketball and in his studies and graduating in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Derrick’s employment history began at J.C. Penney Catalog Division, Old Dominion Freightline and was currently employed at Alan Vigil Ford, Morrow Ga. from January 19, 2015 until the time of his transition. Derrick leaves memories to be cherished by his loving mother Mattie Price; loving, devoted and supportive fiancé, Karen Traore and son Becaye Traore whom Derrick embraced as his own: sister, LeSonya Groover ( LuJames Groover 11); brother, Orenthal Price (Britney) ; nephews, Cordero Ray (Shantrice); Lujames Groover 111; Jordan Price and Messiah Price; aunts, Elaine Duffie; Nellie Finkley; uncles, Melvin Price (Linda); Jimmie Price (Demetrias); Alonzo Price; Willie Thomas; George Thomas, Jr. (Delores); Karen’s sister, Cindy; Karen’s aunts and uncles; Mayra Harris, a very special and devoted friend who was adopted into the family as a sister and a host of other relatives and friends
