Deborah L. Ferguson-Christian

A TIME TO BE BORN… Deborah Lorraine Ferguson-Christian was born in Fort Pierce, Florida on December 23, 1962, to Iram Ferguson and Irene Hayes (The late Jesse Hayes). She began her education at Liberty City Elementary, and continued her education at Charles R. Drew Middle, and later graduated from Miami Northwestern Senior High School. She advanced her learning to attend Miami Dade College for her AA, University of Miami for her BS, Nova Southeastern University for her first MS, and Valdosta University for her 2nd MS. Deborah excelled in all her college courses. A TIME TO GROW… During Deborah’s time in Florida, she worked with Miami Dade County Clerk of the Courts and the US Government of Appeals. Motherhood was natural and happy for Deborah. Always the devoted Mother, Deborah loved her three children, Shaakira, Shantavior and Sean. She always fostered and encouraged their activities, success and goals. Deborah attended stage plays, recitals, field trips, science fairs and football games for her children. Deborah and the children always enjoyed their family vacations and being with other family members. On Sundays they all attended Church Service together. In 1996, Deborah and Chris Christian were joined in marriage. When she relocated to Georgia, she was employed by the Henry County School Board. Deborah was a dedicated Special Education Teacher. She was loved by her students and parents. Deborah was loved by many and touched so many lives with her many talents. She was a published author of My Struggle and Broken Pieces--A Healing for My Soul. Deborah's first published book received great reviews. Deborah was also a Spoken Word Artist, and still life painter. Deborah loved her family and friends. She loved time during the summers with her grandchildren and introducing them to new adventures. Deborah enjoyed taking trips to the Islands and visiting her home city Miami. Family fun, lunch with friends, water, and sun, these are the events that made Deborah happy. Deborah had great culinary skills. She was called upon many times for her red russet potato salad and banana pudding. Deborah also loved gardening. She taught herself landscape gardening. Deborah knew the names of flowers and the growing patterns. She developed a beautiful garden at her home, enjoyed by many. Deborah would also help others to develop their garden space. Her many talents will be remembered in our hearts. A TIME TO SERVE… Deborah, a child of God was baptized and received Christ while attending World Deliverance Church in Miami, FL. Deborah was a member of Spirit of Life Mass Choir. She later relocated and became a member of New Bread of Life Christian Center (NBLCC) in McDonough, Georgia. At NBLCC, Deborah was ordained as a Minster of the Gospel. Deborah developed, taught and supervised the Children's Church. Deborah served as the head of the Women's Ministery; was the Choir Director and member of the Sunday morning Praise and Worship Team. Mentoring young students through a local organization Youth Vision Buildings, Deborah stressed the importance of education and having goals in life. Always willing to help, Deborah was involved in providing food to those in need in our community. A part of Deborah's outreach was helping a mother and her five children find housing. While they were going through the process, they exhausted their funds. Deborah paid for the mother and children to continue living in a hotel for one week. She also provided their food. The outcome, mother and children were relocated to permanent housing with Deborah's help. Deborah never spoke about this. The Mother, who was very grateful told us about Deborah’s outreach. A TIME TO GO HOME WITH THE LORD… Deborah was called home December 1, 2022. She was preceded in death by her late father Iram, sister Sylvia Ferguson and grandson Zion Ferguson-Wright. A TIME OF REMEMBERENCE… Deborah leaves to cherish her memories two daughters Shaakira Landrau and Shantavior Ferguson; one son Sean Davis; two sisters Jacqueline Ferguson and Sharon Ivey (Jerome); one brother Iram Ferguson (Trina); four grandchildren Denny Jackson, Marquese Sparks, Taylor Gibson, and T’Kiri Phillips; nieces and nephews Oneca Lowery, Nikola Roundtree, Anquinette Brown, Shamia Roundtree-Green (Edward), Jerome Ivey Jr., Devon Lowery, Terron Ferguson, Kevona Gay, and Treasure Ferguson; and a host of grand nieces, grand nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family and friends.
