In Loving Memory of Charlie Samuel Bridges The brightest days are often preceded by the darkest nights. During the pre-dawn hours of Saturday, June 27, 2026, while most people slept, the Sovereign God, who never sleeps nor slumbers, called home His beloved servant, Charlie. Charlie Samuel Bridges was born on Wednesday, May 17, 1950. He was the youngest of three children born to Jim Henry Bridges and Emma Lois Bridges-Willis, and was older brother to Melvin Willis. He was preceded in birth by Willie “Billy” Bridges and Dorothy Bridges and followed by Melvin Willis. Charlie was the proud father of three of Georgia’s sweetest peaches: Tammie, Devy, and Keiona. A lifelong resident of Georgia, Charlie was a proud, skilled, and dedicated construction worker. He exemplified the words of Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord and not for men.” Many people have hobbies that occupy their hands and minds when they are away from work. Charlie, on the other hand, enjoyed working… and then working some more… and then just a little more after that! For more than 50 years, he contributed to hundreds of construction projects in Georgia and Ohio. Even during his final days on earth , while his body rested in the hospital, Charlie’s mind was still outdoors, imagining the next building to construct, whether it was a hospital, a shopping mall, or a towering high-rise. When he wasn’t on a construction site, Charlie could often be found at one of his “homes away from home”: church, detailing a car, or enjoying a meal at Waffle House. Charlie’s church home was Towaliga County Line Missionary Baptist Church, where Dr. Eddie F. Collier serves as Lead Pastor. Christ’s love for others was reflected in Charlie’s warm smile, generous spirit, and playful sense of humor that could always bring laughter to those around him. Today, Charlie is living better than any of us can imagine. His dwelling is not made with human hands. He now lives in a mansion with many rooms, on streets paved with gold. Among those welcoming him into eternity are his beloved grandmother, Emily; his parents, Henry and Emma; brother, Willie; sister, Dorothy; stepson, Antonio D. Lester; and his beloved wife, Annie Rozella. Left to continue building Charlie’s legacy with bricks of love, laughter, and cherished memories are his daughters, Tammie (Antonio) Jackson, Devy (Dante’) Grant, and Keiona Thomas; step-daughter Evette “Shunte” Scott; grandchildren, Antonia, Tameka, Caniyah, Tyler, Layla, and Aniylah; step-grand-daughters Chinakanata, and Rhiannon Scott; three great-grandchildren; brother, Melvin; special nephew Robert “Jake” Taylor; and a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and all who were blessed to know and love him. As we celebrate Charlie’s life, we are reminded that the greatest structures are not built of brick and mortar, but of faith, love, and lives well lived. Charlie faithfully built all three. “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.” — Psalm 127:1
